Dubs are Best

Serious attention is being given at Clontarf GC to this year's Best Cup competition. Granted, we're not talking about the blue riband of inter-club supremacy, but even as a modest, Leinster Branch four-ball competition, limited to players of 19 handicap and over, it has produced some rousing battles through the years.

Anyway, Clontarf have put the club president in charge of the current campaign - as manager, selector, the works. And with the action just under way, there are already rumblings about his attention to detail and insistence on 100 per cent commitment from his players.

The current president of Clontarf GC? Kevin Heffernan, no less. And his right-hand man is another former Dub, Cyril Meehan. Can't you hear it - "Simply the best . . . "
