AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION Dundalk 2 UCD 0:GOALS FROM Daniel Kearns and Johnny Breen, coming at the end of each half, secured Dundalk a victory over UCD at Oriel Park. There was little to get enthused about in a drab first half with the home side enjoying most of play.

Dundalk should have taken the lead in the 37th minute when Ciarán Nangle’s backpass fell straight into Marc Griffin’s path but, with just Ger Barron to beat, his right-footed effort went wide.

The teenage striker made amends in the build-up to Dundalk’s opener. Keith Ward – the most inventive player on show – sprayed the ball wide for Simon Madden on the right. His cross looked destined for the head of Griffin but he was sent tumbling by Michael Leahy and Kearns made no mistake with his spot-kick. Shortly after that Kearns was unlucky when his effort cracked the post.

Dundalk wrapped the game up in the 89th minute when substitute Breen toe-poked the ball past Barron from close range.
