Two schools not used to the rugby spotlight fought out this Leinster Senior Cup first-round tie at Palmerstown yesterday, with Dundalk scoring two tries to advance.

Joe Gilles, Brian Fox, Philip Gargan and Alan Moore played leading roles for Dundalk while Cameron Blanchfield, Barry Dunne and Dominic Grufferty were prominent for Scoil Eoin. Dundalk took the lead when a strike against the head allowed flanker Alan Carter to plunge over for a try. Out-half Fox converted.

Blanchfield made the first of several breaks to encourage Scoil Eoin but they had to wait until one minute before the break to registered a penalty from Aaron Flood.

Gilles squeezed over in the right corner after 42 minutes and this gave Dundalk the heart to repel Scoil Eoin right to the end.
