Dundalk moved to joint second place in the table after recording their sixth successive win, their seventh from eight games, with a laboured 2-0 defeat of Limerick FC at Oriel Park on Saturday night.
Brian Honan gave Terry Eviston's side the ideal start with a goal after nine minutes when he lobbed Limerick goalkeeper Jimmy Fyffe.
Limerick worked very hard but lacked creativity in front of goal. Dundalk sealed their win on 68 minutes when David Ward set up Brian Morrisroe to score with a 25 yard shot.
Athlone referee Paul Murphy incensed Monaghan United when awarding Home Farm/Fingal an 86th minute penalty in an incident filled 2-2 draw at Whitehall.
Monaghan goalkeeper Eddie van Boxtel protested vehemently to Murphy after he was penalised for pulling down Home Farm's Robbie Farrell, who scored from the spot. Andy Myler had twice given Monaghan the lead with strikes in the 44th and 65th minutes after Robbie Best had scored an own goal.
The game between Cobh Ramblers and Kilkenny City was abandoned after 40 minutes due to a power cut near St Colman's Park. The game was scoreless at the time.
Glenavon manager, Roy Walker, fears that injury will deal a knock-out blow to his team's Smirnoff Irish League Premier division title hopes.

Walker is worried he does not have the back-up to sustain the great start Glenavon have made to the championship.
