Two first-half goals from corner forward Shane Lennon confirmed Dundalk Schools' place in the next round of the Leinster Colleges A Championship at a windy, wet Pairc na nGael, Dundalk, yesterday.
Dundalk Schools ... 2-10
Coláiste Eoin ... 0-6
The five-school combination side, who now meet St Joseph's, Rochfortbridge, in Dundalk next Friday, were much too strong for the 1998 Leinster champions with midfield duo John Doyle and Nigel Shevlin setting the standard.
Playing against the wind, Dundalk Schools opened with two points from Shane Lennon but Coláiste Eoin struck back to lead 0-3 to 0-2 with scores from Eoin Ó Seanáin, Deaglán Ó Céilleachair and Conchubhair Ó Nuáin in what turned out to be their best spell of the game.
Lennon's first goal on 23 minutes had a hint of fortune to it, as the ball dipped under the crossbar as he shot for a point, but his second came at the end of a flowing move on the stroke of half time.
Leading 2-5 to 0-4 at the interval, Dundalk Schools extended their advantage during the second half, with points from Simon Kelly, Nigel Shevlin and substitutes Sean Fee and John Pepper.
Coláiste Eoin added points from Ó Seanáin and Ó Céilleachair, but only got sight of the Dundalk goal late on when Ben Latchford had a goal-bound shot blocked on the line.
