FORMER British champion Richard Dunwoody made his first visit to Kilbeggan a winning one last evening when making virtually all on odds on chance Allatrim in the Tullamore Mares Maiden Hurdle.
Winning training Edward O'Grady said after the well supported 4 to 7 chance scored by three and half lengths: "That's my first winner for Cayman Islands based owner Ron Madden and his first success in Ireland. She will run in a handicap hurdle at Tralee next Friday and, hopefully, Richard will ride.
Dunwoody went on to complete a double on the Dessie Hughes trained Cuban Question who came home the easy winner of the Hackett Bookmakers Beginners Chase to complete his first success over fences.
Patrickswell trainer Michael Hourigan saddled two runners for the Pat Doyle Memorial Handicap Hurdle and tasted mixed fortunes. Hourigan's Fair Society and John Moloney held the advantage on the approach to the penultimate flight but took a crashing fall, leaving stable companion I Remember it Well to battle on under Shane Broderick and beat Jane Digby in a photo finish.
Point to point winner All For Max provided Waterford permit holder Gerard Halley, a first cousin of Turf club doctor Walter Halley, with his first success on a race track when romping home unchallenged in the opener to provide rider, Paul Roche, with a welcome chance of luck.
