Golf: England's Simon Dyson completed a highly successful year on the Asian PGA tour by winning the $500,000 Hong Kong Open yesterday.
Dyson's final-round seven-under-par 64 gaven him his biggest ever pay cheque of $80,750 and the Tour Order Of Merit title. He produced a vintage putting display to win by three strokes from Australian Kim Felton, American John Kernohan and South Korea's Charlie Wi who were tied for second.
Swimming: Double Olympic champion Yana Klochkova earned swimming's biggest pay-out on the final day of the European short-course championships. The 18-year-old Ukranian, who guaranteed herself a bonus of 100,000 German marks (about $45,000) when she completed a fourth major championship win in the 200 metres individual medley on Thursday, earned twice that sum when she scored a runaway win in yesterday's 400 individual medley.
Klochkova mastered the Superstar 2000 challenge, which embraced last December's European short-course in Lisbon, the European long-course in Helsinki in July, the Sydney Olympics and this meeting. Ireland's Michael Williamson qualified for the 100 metre medley final after posting the eighth fastest time of 2:13.70.
Snooker: Ronnie O'Sullivan found it tough to smile despite winning the China Open trophy for the second straight year at Mission Hills Resort, Shenzhen yesterday.
"It's nice to win but the last 10 days or so have been very hard and I just can't wait to get home," said the 25-year-old after potting superbly to beat world champion Mark Williams 9-3 in the final.
"I was in a clinic for depression six or seven months ago and getting my life in order is the main priority." "
