BASKETBALL:UL EAGLES ended their 2010 campaign with a comfortable 92-63 win over UCD Marian, largely due to a brilliant display from Scott Kinevane, to leave them in pole position in the Superleague Southern Conference.
The Irish international contributed 23 points, while Cameron Mitchell and Neil Campbell also played a huge part in the 29-point win.
The Eagles quickly built up a lead in the opening quarter with point guard and Irish International Kinevane draining key shots from the three-point line.
The scoring assault from the Limerick trio of Kinevane, Campbell and Mitchell saw them collect 65 points in the victory.
Killester enjoyed a comfortable win and maintained their top spot in Northern Conference with a 94-72 victory over Moycullen.
Led by Jermaine Turner’s 14-points, Killester’s was a real team effort with double-digit scoring tallies coming from five players in their attack.
Killester coach Mark Keenan said: “Our defence was not up to the mark and we were missing that fire we showed in the first quarter but we had a great spread in scoring and shared the ball.”
In the Women’s Superleague, UL atoned for their recent National Cup loss to DCU Mercy when they overcame Mark Ingle’s side 62-52.
UL started impressively with Caitriona Foley contributing the first six points while 10 points from Michelle Fahy and Natalie Taylor’s three-pointers also helped UL lead 33-24 at the break.
