The Ford Ladies Strokeplay championship attracted an entry of over 6,000 this year and when the finals were decided at Druids Glen last week, Pat Eakin from the Laytown and Bettystown club was the overall winner. The former amateur international and mother of Tracy Eakin, who plays on the women's professional tour, shot a one-under-par 73 off an 11 handicap to take the top prize.

Pat Eakin had five shots to spare over Susan Byrne of Arklow, won the low handicap category with 77 and the only other players to break 80, Daphne Power of Lismore and Gillian Crehan from Dooks. Catherine Ledwidge made it a double for the Arklow club when she won the middle handicap category from Jessie McKeown of East Cork and Mary Fitzpatrick from Templemore. Gillian Crehan from Dooks took the high handicap category from Cheri Feely (Christy O'Connor Club) and Phil Stack from Ardfert.
