Tottenham v Southend:Freddy Eastwood, the gypsy striker whose goal knocked Manchester United out of the League Cup last month, is desperate to overcome a lean spell tonight for Southend's quarter-final with Tottenham but his manager, Steve Tilson, knows that another outstanding performance could see the 23-year-old lured away from Roots Hall in January.
Despite his record of more than a goal every other game since arriving at the club in 2004, Eastwood has scored only once in seven outings since the spectacular free-kick which knocked Alex Ferguson's side out of the competition six weeks ago. A string of eye-catching performances saw him heavily linked with a move to West Ham United, where he spent a season as a trainee four years ago, but this evening he will be charged with bringing down a side that has won its last 10 home games.
As Southend tiptoe into uncharted waters with their first League Cup quarter-final, for the former Spurs midfielder Mark Gower the tie will be a chance to avenge the "horrible" end to his White Hart Lane career.
The 28-year-old comes from a family of Tottenham season-ticket holders. "My mate just rang me and said he's going to chuck a few stones at the coach, so I should imagine they all want Spurs to win," he said.
Gower, who came through their youth system, had five years there as a professional. But his loyalties lie elsewhere now.
Venue: White Hart Lane. Kick-off: 8pm
