Pat Eddery will ride Indian Lodge in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Mile at Churchill Downs in Kentucky after the Jockey Club quashed the four-day ban he received last week.

Eddery was given the suspension for irresponsible riding aboard Lucky Gitano in the Come Home to the Racing Channel Handicap Stakes at Redcar last Tuesday, ruling him out of the Breeders' Cup meeting.

However, the disciplinary committee of the Jockey Club overturned that decision at an inquiry at Portman Square yesterday. After hearing evidence from Eddery and Robert Winston, the rider of Dark Victor, and viewing video recordings of the race the committee found that the interference between the two horses had been accidental and due to circumstances beyond Eddery's control.

"I'm very pleased," the jockey said. "I felt I always had to appeal as the decision was wrong on the day. I go out to America tomorrow and I'm very much looking forward to riding Indian Lodge."

Michael Kinane had been in line to deputise for Eddery at Churchill Downs if his appeal had been turned down.

Meanwhile, Frankie Dettori warmed up for the Breeders' Cup yesterday and declared he was delighted just to be taking part on a world stage at the end of an eventful year.

Dettori was involved in an aircraft crash on June 1st that claimed the life of the pilot. The Italian broke his ankle and was out of action for more than two months and Ray Cochrane was also injured and has since retired as a jockey.

"I still have good times and bad times but I'm here and that's an achievement in itself," said Dettori after riding work at the Churchill Downs racetrack yesterday.

"I went through hell and back to get back just for Dubai Millennium and he should have been here. But the day I made my comeback he broke his leg and I think maybe I came back a month too early."

Dettori is keen for his blunder on Swain at Churchill Downs two years ago to be consigned to the dustbin. On that occasion he allowed his mount to wander badly in the closing stages and threw away victory in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

"I'm mortal and sometimes I'm allowed to make a mistake, though not very often," he says.

Dettori believes the Classic contender Fantastic Light offers him the best chance of his second Breeders' Cup success after Daylami 12 months ago. "Diktat is going well but he won't get in, so we are relying on Fantastic Light. He is a good honest horse and won't let us down."
