Inspired by veteran forward Peter Brady, who took the much-coveted man-of-the-match award, Edenderry made no mistake at the second attempt when defeating Rhode by three points in the replay of the Offaly SFC final in Tullamore yesterday.
Edenderry led at half-time by 1-5 to 1-2. They recovered well after poor defending let Pascal Kelleghan in for an eight-minute Rhode goal and they dominated the second quarter during which they held their opponents scoreless.
A 28th-minute goal by Robbie Glennon, which followed a sweeping five-man passing movement, meant that Edenderry never looked liked losing this final.
Rhode continued to shoot erratically on the change of ends and the writing was on the wall when they found themselves trailing by four points with five minutes remaining.
However, substitute Pat Daly threw them a lifeline by scoring two good points in succession. But Edenderry were quick to regain control and clinched victory with an injury-time point by Glennon.
The victory handed Edenderry their third title in five years and their ninth in total.
