Edenderry gained consolation for their defeat by Shannonbridge in last year's final when they snatched a 1-15 to 1-14 victory over Ferbane in the final of the Offaly senior football championship in Tullamore. They left it late to gain their seventh title win, for it was a goal by substitute Niall Comerford three minutes into injury time that enabled them to snatch victory from a Ferbane side poised for a win.

Ferbane built an interval lead of 1-9 to 0-6, their goal being netted in the 28th minute by their captain, Mel Keenaghan. With seven minutes remaining Ferbane's lead had been reduced to a single point; but when Brendan Wynne and Brendan Flynn pointed to give them 1-14 to 0-14 lead in the 57th minute, they seemed assured of victory.

Edenderry refused to accept defeat, and a 59th minute point by Declan Flynn was followed by Comerford's last-gasp winning goal.
