CAMEROON, who have appeared in the final stages of the World Cup three times, crashed out of the African Nations' Cup yesterday, while Egypt shocked hosts South Africa 1-0 to reach the quarter finals.

Cameroon came from 3-1 down eight minutes from time to draw 3-3 with Angola in Durban, but needed to win to reach the last eight.

Egypt's 1-0 win over group A winners South Africa in Johannesburg secured a quarter final place against Zambia who heat Sierra Leone 4-0 last night for the side coached by former Holland international Ruud Krol.

South Africa, who conceded their first goal in three first round matches, won the group on goal difference and stay in Johannesburg to meet the group B runners up Algeria, 2-1 winners over Burkina Faso last night, in their quarterfinal on Saturday.

Ahmed El Kass scored the winner for Egypt his third goal in as many matches in the seventh minute. Hady Kashaha's free kick rebounded off the South Africa wall to fall perfectly for Hazem Imam, whose pass set up El Kass' strike. Egypt will meet Zambia in Bloemfontein on Saturday night.

Zambia skipper Kalusba Bwalya hit a hat trick in their victory. Bwalya fired home in the second, ninth and 83rd minutes before Modon Malitoli hit a fourth with two minutes to go.

Khaled Louniei's header put Algeria ahead after two minutes in the quickest goal of the tournament so far against Burkina Faso and Billel Dziri side footed home a second in the 76th minute. Burkina Faso, who lost all three of their matches, notched a consolation goal when Boureima Zongo found the net late on.
