Carlow SFC Final/ Eire Óg 0-7 O'Hanrahans 0-6: There was too much at stake for free-flowing football in this all-Carlow town final before 3,500 spectators at Dr Cullen Park yesterday as Eire Óg just about deserved victory.
Eire Óg showed greater composure in taking their scores, with all their seven points coming from play. O'Hanrahans, by comparison, were very wasteful.
After a poor first half, Eire Óg led 0-3 to 0-2. O'Hanrahans restarted with a brace of points from Seamus Farrell (free) and Anthony Kavanagh but Eire Óg regained control to shoot four unanswered points and establish a 0-7 to 0-4 lead.
Mark Carpenter, the O'Hanrahans captain, was denied an equalising goal by a fine save from goalkeeper Gerry McGill.
