Killoe Young Emmets 0-15 Longford Slashers 0-12:IT TOOK extra-time to separate the sides after Killoe and Slashers finished all square at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park yesterday but Young Emmets got on top in the additional period to capture the Connolly Cup for the first time since 1995.

Slashers were attempting to win the title for the third year in a row but Killoe were looking the likely winners in normal time after establishing a 0-9 to 0-6 lead with 10 minutes left.

Six of the Killoe points came from Longford star Seán McCormack but Slashers, despite losing key player Paul Kelly injured early in the second half, showed character to get back level with three scores (all frees) through the Smith brothers Mark and Colin.

When Mark Smith scored a wonderful point from a tight angle in stoppage time, Slashers were almost over the finishing line but Daniel Mimnagh proved to be the saviour for Killoe when he landed a point to leave the sides on 0-10 apiece at the final whistle.

The younger Killoe side had the edge in extra-time as they outscored injury-hit Slashers 0-5 to 0-2 to emerge victorious from a thrilling game and they are back in action on Sunday next at home to the Wexford champions St Anne’s in the first round of the Leinster Club championship.
