Tipperary had a far more comprehensive win over Waterford at Dungarvan yesterday than the final scoreline suggests. The game was over as a contest midway through the opening half by which time Tipperary had raced into an 11-point lead.
Goals from Liam Cahill after four minutes and full forward Brian O'Meara, 10 minutes later, put Tipperary well in control.
They led by 2-8 to 0-3 at half-time after Waterford had to wait 12 minutes for their opening score from their best player on the day, Dave Bennett. He contributed 1-5 of his side's total.
The Waterford goal came on the stroke of full-time when Bennett converted a 20 metre free.
The win virtually assures Tipperary and new manager Nicky English a place in the South-East League final.
In yesterday's other game, Limerick beat Cork 0-12 to 0-7.
