European Cup: Team check

Leinster coach Matt Williams announced an unchanged team from that which beat Toulouse for tomorrow night's Heineken European Cup match against Newcastle at Donnybrook (7.0). The replacements bench remains the same.

Williams pointed out: "Last week was the first time since I have been here that I have had everyone from which to select and it is the first time that I have announced an unchanged 22." The Australian is well aware that Newcastle head for Dublin having lost their opening game in the Cup - at home to Newport - and the visitors know that nothing short of a victory will sustain their ambitions.

"They (Newcastle) were unlucky to lose, gave away an intercept try against the run of play and some tough decisions went against them. They didn't get the bounce of the ball. When they have (Johnny) Wilkinson playing for them you can go out and outplay them for 38 minutes but still go in three points down.

"It is a particularly hard game. They know they have to win. Newcastle play with a lot of width, there is a big Scottish influence there, especially with Pat Lam, the new Scottish defensive coach."

Munster

Munster make two changes to the team that beat Castres for Saturday's European Cup match against Harlequins at the Stoop. Dominic Crotty damaged a knuckle in training on Tuesday and has been ruled out. He is replaced by Garryowen's Jeremy Staunton who has plenty of provincial experience at full back. John Hayes has had the 22 stitches he had inserted after the international in Murrayfield removed and medical opinion says he can play. He replaces Martin Cahill.

There are three changes on the bench as coach Declan Kidney operates the squad rotational system. John Fogarty comes in for James Blaney, Derek Hegarty for Mike Prendergast while Colm McMahon fills the vacancy left by Staunton.
