Men's Hockey/ Weekend preview: The 2006 Club Championships will be decided at the National Hockey Stadium at Belfield over the weekend of May 12th to 14th.

As all of the provincial leagues have been decided, the two pools of teams have been divided according to how they finished up in their respective competitions. In other words a little seeding has taken place.

This puts Leinster champions, Glenanne in with Ulster Irish Senior Cup finalists Lisnagarvey, Munster's Cork Church of Ireland and third placed Leinster club, Corinthians.

What is at stake is a place in European hockey next season, although, if Cork Harlequins emerge as champions, as they did in this season's Irish Senior Cup final against Lisnagarvey, then they will play in the European Club Championships and cup runners-up 'Garvey will represent Ireland in the European Cup Winners Cup.

In the four-team Pool B, Ulster league champions Annadale, who topped the table this season with some considerable ease, are top seeds and play against Leinster league runners-up Pembroke, cup champions Cork Harlequins and Banbridge.

The pool matches will be played over three days with the top sides in each going through to play in a grand final on May 28th.

Importantly for the clubs involved, they will all have their international players available after a busy season culminating in the World Cup qualifying event in China, where Ireland failed to qualify for the finals to be held in Germany later this year.

Both Glenanne and Pembroke will each have a couple of international players back, while Corinthians will welcome back their Ireland goalkeeper Charlie Henderson.

Elsewhere, Trinity held on to their Leinster Senior League Division One status when they won their play-off match 3-0 against division two's St Brendan's/Portrane/Phoenix Park, while Blackrock's Avoca slipped back into senior two hockey for next season.
