TOMMY EVANS from Banbridge, winner of the FBD Milk Riis last year but not listed among the record entry of 187 for the nine day event which starts next Saturday, has been called in to take the place of Eugene Moriarty on the Ireland team.
Moriarty was chosen with Peter Daly, Leslie McKay, Bill Moore and Ciaran Power but when tendonitis forced the French based Listowel man to withdraw, Evans accepted the invitation to fill the vacancy.
Evans did not contest all the early season races but figured prominently in the Tour of the North at Easter and also the Tour of Ulster two weeks ago - he won the time trials in both events.
At Bray on Sunday, Evans showed he is in good form when he beat David Peelo for third place in the Shay Elliott memorial race - nine seconds behind Power and Dermot Heal.
