Team Ireland rider Tommy Evans finished a fine third in the Grand Prix de Charvieu-Chavagneux race on Saturday, going clear early in the 135-kilometre French event and then pressing ahead in the closing stages as part of a five-man breakaway. Third in the dash for the line, Evans also won the hot spot sprints competition.

Back home, Niall Rock, Gavin Pyke, Kieran Enright, Adam Petrie Armstrong, David Dunlop and Theo Hadwick proved best of their various categories in the Classic Walls underage championships in Glaslough, Monaghan.

The championships were decided over three disciplines - time trial, circuit race and road race, with Pyke and Petrie-Armstrong winning all three of their contests. The successful riders will compete on Irish teams in the forthcoming Westwood Homes Kerry youth tour.
