ARSENAL midfielder Cesc Fábregas says he wants his future sorted ahead of this summer’s World Cup, though he insisted he is happy at the club.

“If I leave Arsenal it will be to play at Barcelona, he told Marca. “I do not know when it will happen, I am very happy at Arsenal and I am in no hurry to leave.

“Before the World Cup I want to know my future, because playing at a World Cup and having something on your mind does not help anyone.”

The midfielder added he had not been contacted by any prospective president of the Catalan club, which faces presidential elections this summer.

“Nobody has contacted me, so I do not feel used,” he said.

Catalan newspaper El Mundo Deportivoclaim Fabregas had told family and friends he had agreed a four-year deal with the Blaugrana.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he intends to sign a defender this summer, accepting his side’s performances at the back this year have been “average” as they conceded 41 goals as they finished third in the Premier League.

Wenger is keen to keep veteran Sol Campbell on his books to give some much-needed experience to the young squad, which has now not delivered a trophy in five years.

Campbell, 36 in September, sees no reason why he should not be at Emirates Stadium again next season as negotiations over a new contact continue.

“I fancy staying, of course I do,” Campbell told the club’s official website, www.arsenal.com. “I want to stay and I want to give it my all for at least another year. I could do two, but the manager never gives out two. We always want a little bit more.

“Give me one year and I will work every day and try to win a trophy and bring some kind of glory back to Arsenal. “Deep inside I feel I have got two real gritty years left in me, the years in which I can affect things. We will sit down, it has started and we will try to thrash something out.”

Fulham’s Brede Hangeland and Senegal defender Pape Diakhate are thought to be on Wenger’s summer shopping list, with Campbell and fit-again Johan Djourou then also set to back up Thomas Vermaelen.

Mikael Silvestre is, meanwhile, also out of contract in the summer. The former Manchester United defender, 32, is a target for Blackburn Rovers.
