NICK FALDO, who won a record fourth Volvo PGA Championship title over the West Course in 1989, has changed his mind and will fly back to Europe to play at Wentworth on May 23rd-26th.

"For me the PGA Championship has always been very special, not least because it was my first big victory as a professional (at Birkdale in 1978). In recent years it has developed into a truly outstanding event with a strong international field. I look forward to trying to win the title for a fifth time."

It is a decision which could have a big bearing on Europe's Ryder Cup team. Faldo had originally said he was not returning from the USPGA Tour, where he is now based, until just before the British Open in July and the chances of him earning an automatic place on Seve Ballesteros' side looked slim.

But prizemoney at Wentworth is a massive £1.1 million, with £183,330 going to the winner. If Faldo is successful he is certain to start as one of the favourites - he may well not need one of Ballesteros' two wild cards.
