Fallon draws level

Kieren Fallon drew level with Frankie Dettori in the race for the jockeys' title with a double at Brighton yesterday

Kieren Fallon drew level with Frankie Dettori in the race for the jockeys' title with a double at Brighton yesterday. But Fallon immediately stated: "It is too early to begin worrying about the championship now. Wait and until the last two weeks of the season, but it might be exciting."

Fallon now on 125 winners along with Dettori, rode a 41 to 1 brace on La Doyenne (6 to 1) and Mystical (5 to 1) but the Italian remains a hot favourite with the Tote at 2 to 5 to lift the championship with Fallon a 7 to 4 chance.

Dettori was having a day off from riding, and the Irishman joked: "I can't afford to take time off like Frankie - I am not as wealthy as him!

"The way I look at it is that, whether it's Brighton or Bath, they are all winners and they all count - sellers and all. There is still a lot of the season left and look what happened to Frankie last year when that injury put him out for a long time."

Fallon was seen at his best on Mystical in the Arthur Borrow King Memorial Handicap, Linda Stubbs's second winner from her new stables at Marlborough. The filly led inside the final furlong to beat Hever Golf Mover by three quarters of a length.

Earlier, Fallon had initiated his double on La Doyenne, who made the 450 mile round trip from Flaxton in Yorkshire. La Doyenne led well over two furlongs out when the rider brought the chestnut over to the stands' rails. The duo quickened away from the field to win by six lengths from The Green Grey.

Royston Ffrench hit the 55-winner mark for the season when partnering Muara Bay to victory in the Queens Park Centenary Challenge Cup Handicap for Epsom trainer Geoff Lewis.
