March 12th: Australia - Qualified: 7th; Did not finish (spin); Any real judgement of the quality of the R1 was impossible to attain as after six laps Irvine spun to avoid Arrows' Pedro de la Rosa and stalled. "I'm not too disheartened, but we do have a lot of problems to address."
March 26th: Brazil - Qualified: 6th; Did not finish (accident); Race went the same way as Australia, with Irvine crashing out after just 20 laps. "I was pushing harder than I should have been and lost the back end."
April 9th: San Marino - Qualified: 7th; Finished 7th; The first real sign ofthe potential at Imola, with Irvine qualifying seventh and managing to hold onto that position through the race. "A very positive weekend."
April 23rd: Britain - Qualified: 9th; Finished 13th; Irvine qualified respectably, but clutch problems which had first shown themselves at Imola surfaced again, wrecking the Irishman's race. "An unhappy weekend all round."
May 7th: Spain - Qualified: 10th; Finished 11th; After qualifying a forgettable 10th, the Jaguar driver had another bad start, slipping back a number of places. "We're qualifying consistently, but poor starts are putting us down the pecking order."
May 21st: European - Qualified: 8th; Position: Did not finish (accident); A rain-soaked weekend at the Nurburgring didn't advance Jaguar's cause any as Irvine clashed mid-way through the race with Jos Verstappen and Ralf Schumacher. "It's a pity because with track conditions the way they were, points were there for the taking."
