Shane Lowry’s professional debut in the European Open at the London Club in Kent tomorrow will begin alongside fellow Irishman Paul McGinley and England’s Anthony Wall. The 22-year-old, whose Irish Open victory two weeks ago made him only the third amateur to win on the European Tour, has to wait until 12.40pm to get going in his new career.

The Esker Hills golfer will be eager to hit that first ball after a hectic two weeks since his win at Baltray.

While he is now putting for dough, he is also making connections off the course. Telecommunications company, 3, who sponsored the Irish Open for the first time this month, announced today they have teamed up with the Offaly man.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be officially associated with the 3 brand as I begin my career on the PGA European Tour,” said Lowry in a statement. “As winner of the inaugural 3 Irish Open, it is fitting to announce 3 as my first commercial partner as a professional golfer.”

Damien McGrane and Graeme McDowell are the first of the 10 Irish out, at the first and 10th respectively.

McGrane will tee off with Scotland's Alastair Forsyth and Dane Mads Vibe-Hastrup, while McDowell has Ryder Cup team-mate Oliver Wilson and American Ben Curtis for company.

Fellow Ulsterman Darren Clarke will play alongside star attraction John Daly and India's Jeev Milkha-Singh.

World number 16 Rory McIlroy tees off with England's Lee Westwood and Spains Alvaro Quiros at 1pm.
