SWIMMING World Championships:A Ukrainian coach filmed fighting with his daughter at the World Championships in Melbourne told a magistrates court yesterday that he would not repeat the behaviour.
Mikhaylo Zubkov (38), was filmed pushing and shoving his 18-year-old daughter Kateryna Zubkova in a marshalling area on Tuesday evening. Kateryna tried to push her father away several times during the scuffle.
Police tried to have an intervention order extended, banning Zubkov from contacting his daughter, but the magistrate dismissed the matter after the swimmer refused to give evidence.
"It's my fault too. I disobeyed him and he got upset," Kateryna said. "He would never hurt me. He's a wonderful father. He loves me a lot, he worries about me a lot. I just want him to come back, so we can talk and be with me."
Meanwhile, Michael Phelps set his third world record in three days to collect his fourth gold medal. The American slashed almost a second off his record to win the 200 metres individual medley, after setting records for the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly the two previous days.
