What a year it has been for the Neary family of Skerries golf club. This year, Geraldine Neary has the honour of being the lady captain of the north Dublin club. But it has been her two children who have been hitting the headlines on the golf course in recent weeks, pulling off what is surely a unique family double.
First into the winner's enclosure was daughter Orlagh Neary, who won Brian Lee's captain's prize to ladies earlier this summer. Donnacha Neary, playing off 19, completed the family double, with an accumulated nett score of 1041/2 for the 27 holes in the captain's prize.
Meanwhile, to add to the family's golfing success in recent months, Geraldine Neary also partnered her son Donnacha to win the club's mixed foursomes matchplay championship, while father Mike Neary, who was captain in 1994, also got in on the act by caddying for his victorious son.
