RACING:DERMOT WELD'S Famous Name will attempt to finally secure an elusive top-flight prize in Canada tomorrow night when he lines up for the €750,000 Grade One Woodbine Mile in Toronto.

The Irish five-year-old, who has finished runner-up in three Group One prizes – in the 2008 French Derby and both last year’s Tattersalls Gold Cup and Prix Du Moulin – is the sole European raider for the Woodbine feature.

Another Irish hope on the night’s card will be David Wachman’s Latin Love, who lines up for the €200,000 Grade Two Canadian Stakes over nine furlongs.

The top American jockey Garrett Gomez will be on board Latin Love in the six-runner event, but Weld’s number one, Pat Smullen, travels to Canada to team up with Famous Name, who has been drawn 12 of the 13 runners.

A pair of star American Grade One winners have also shipped into Toronto, with the east coast champion Court Vision joined by the Californian charge The Usual QT. Another familiar name is Crowded House, the former Racing Post Trophy winner who is now based in the US.

For the first time, Famous Name will be on lasix in the race, and, despite a wide draw, he does get some weight from The Usual QT and Court Vision and will be helped by recent rain in the Toronto area.

Weld also has a big player in this weekend’s home feature, the €150,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes at Fairyhouse, where Moonlit Garden boasts a 96 rating.

However, this will be her first time at the seven-furlong trip and, after an extremely promising start to her career, Moonlit Garden’s form looks to have tailed off.

Seven of the 22 runners are British-trained, while Irishman Eoghan O’Neill ships two from his new base at Le Mans outside Paris.

Johnny Murtagh has been booked for Dereentra, who narrowly won a maiden at a provincial track in France, while Up The Dubs has yet to threaten the judge in four starts. Act Of Love is a winner and although only rated 80 does appear to have a decent draw in this lucrative event.
