NATIONAL LEAGUE: Trouble flared on the terraces at Oriel Park last night as Dundalk battled for points to avoid relegation against old rivals Bohemians.
Gardaí were forced to intervene as local youths fired bottles and cans at visiting fans which threatened to turn nasty.
As for the match itself, the visitors dominated the game, with Glen Crowe once again showing that he is one of the best players in the country; but somehow Dundalk survived a nervous first half to go in at half-time on level terms.
Bohemians got the long awaited breakthrough on 53 minutes when Crowe scored with a header after shots by himself, Fergal Harkin and Dave Morrison were blocked.
Bohemians looked comfortable now; but Dundalk scored against the run of play on 69 minutes.
This came when local boy Chris Lawless broke through the centre of the Bohemian defence and found Martin Reilly, whose shot came back off the crossbar. However, Lawless following up, headed to the net from close range.
Bohemians still continued to have the better scoring chances but their hopes of victory was lost when they had central defender Stephen Caffrey sent off for pulling down Reilly late on.
