Leinster Schools' Senior Cup: The two pre-tournament favourites for the 2005 Leinster Schools' Senior Cup are set to meet at the quarter-final stage after last night's draw at Lansdowne Road.

The holders, Blackrock College, can back up their perennial favourites' tag as they made up the bones of the Leinster schools' side that recently beat Munster before narrowly losing to Ulster.

St Michael's College join them in the bottom half of the draw. If Blackrock, as expected, beat The High School and St Michael's overcome Clongowes Wood College the two Holy Ghost schools will cross swords in the last eight.

Terenure are the other major threat in the bottom half and should await the winners of the Holy Ghost battle in the semi-finals.

In the top half, Castleknock have a tough draw. If they get past Roscrea or Newbridge College - who replay the league quarter-final to see who progresses to the first round - they will have to stop St Mary's College who drew one of the Vinnie Murray Cup qualifiers. Belvedere College have a fairly clean run to the last four.

The semi-finalists in the Vinnie Murray Cup progress to the Senior Cup proper.

The same scenario applies at junior level in the Fr Godfrey Cup. Blackrock appeared to have got the plum draw with Templeogue College in the first round, followed by the winners of Gonzaga and a qualifier. Belvedere aside, the other top six schools are set to pair off in the quarter-finals.
