ST COLMAN'S, Fermoy are the new Munster Colleges senior hurling champions. They were in rampant mood in the final at Clonmel yesterday when they outclassed Nenagh CBS to collect their fifth princial title.
The Cork side showed why they were hot favourites by easing into a 1-8 to 1-1 interval advantage. This was due to the dominance of their half backs, William Twomey, Luke Mannix and James Murray. They also had a definite edge at midfield where Eoin Murphy and Paul Cotter were in control.
Going into the last quarter St Colman's were leading by 1-12 to 1-3 and they then hit a purple patch scoring 2-7 in a 10-minute spell without reply, with two of their outstanding performers, John McCarthy and Elton Pierce, getting the goals.
