James Adam can take a belated place in the spotlight by landing today's William Hill Handicap Chase at Hereford with Fils De Cresson.

He had hoped to hit the headlines by winning last month's Victor Chandler Chase with Monnaie Forte, laying his horse out for the race only to see an 11th hour setback rule him out.

To make matters worse, his stable star ran badly when eventually reappearing at Cheltenham and is currently under a cloud.

But Fils De Cresson can lighten the gloom with victory in today's £10,000-added two-mile handicap. He has already scored over this trip this term, registering a very success in a maiden chase at Catterick in January.

And the nine-year-old showed he was on a favourable mark when going down by just a length and a half to Hang'em Out To Dry in a novice handicap at Doncaster later in the month.

He was outstayed in the closing stages that day and will be seen to better advantage today, with conditions putting the emphasis more on speed.

Willmott's Fancy can collect the 19-furlong Hoechst Roussel Panacur EBF Mares' National Hunt Novice Hurdle for local trainer Venetia Williams.
