Fiona Healy brought her tally of girls' championships to two from three outings when she won the Leinster Girls' at The Island last week. Healy, winner of the Ulster Girls', in which she beat Martina Gillen in the final, was an all-the-way winner at The Island when beating Tullamore's Una Marsden 4 and 3 in the final. Ironically, Healy lost to Gillen in the final of the Munster Girls', but beat the Beaverstown girl at The Island. Three-time Irish Close champion Pamela Murphy was the leading qualifier, but lost in the semi-final to Marsden, while Aine Dogget of Co Louth won the nett with a 67. The plate competition brought a name well known in golfing circles to the fore when Suzie Hayes, daughter of former international Tony Hayes, beat Helen Thornton of Greenore in the final.
