Three firsts will be recorded when Hazel Grove and Luttrellstown meet in the first leg of the Best Cup at Malahide golf club on Saturday, September 4th. Both Hazel Grove and Luttrellstown will be contesting their first final and this year's decider will also be a one-off match for the first time.
The competition, sponsored by Lambert Smith Hampton, Property Solutions, will be played at Malahide to honour the long-time organiser Bertie Best, after whom the competition is now named. Played as a fourball matchplay home and away with five matches each time, the final this year will be over seven matches.
This year 47 clubs took part with Luttrellstown beating Malahide and Hazel Grove accounting for Rush in the semi-finals. Eugene Dunne's Hazel Grove team have been knocking on the door for a few years while Luttrellstown, managed by Marty Crawford, are a relatively new club with a very competitive team of players.
