Sammy McIlroy will be banking on a bolstered midfield when his Northern Ireland side continue their Group Three qualifying campaign with the visit of the former European champions Denmark to Windsor Park today.

Injuries have forced McIlroy to make changes to the side that beat Malta 1-0 in their opening fixture. Steve Lomas is switched to right back in place of Ian Nolan, while in midfield Manchester City's Jeff Whitley replaces Damien Johnson, who is recovering from a groin injury. Gerry Taggart, the Leicester City central defender, passed a rigorous fitness test on his knee and will link up again with Colin Murdock of Preston. David Healy, the Manchester United striker who has scored four goals in five internationals, leads the attack.

Northern Ireland (4-5-1): Carroll (Wigan); Lomas (West Ham, capt), Taggart (Leicester City), Murdock (Preston), Hughes (Newcastle United); Whitley (Man City), Lennon (Leicester), Magilton (Ipswich), Horlock (Man City), Elliott (Motherwell); Healy (Manchester United).
