Golf round-up:England's Oliver Fisher kept his cool in the final round to win the Czech Open as he signed for a 69 to win by two shots at the Prosper Golf Resort in Celadna.

Fisher, 22, had shared the lead overnight and continued a fine weekend to claim his first win on the European Tour, finishing 13 under for the tournament.

Mikael Lundberg of Sweden finished second after remaining in contention throughout by matching Fisher’s 69.

Consecutive birdies at the seventh, eighth and ninth put Fisher in a good position going into the back nine where three more birdies and three bogeys proved to be enough to secure his maiden title.

“I can’t really explain what it means. After the year that I’ve had it’s a relief in that sense,” said Fisher, who becomes the fifth member of the 2007 Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team to win on tour.

“It feels fantastic. I’ve put a lot of hard work in and to come out, my fifth season on Tour, to finally have won it feels like now I’m there. I’ve proven to myself I can win.

“It just shows what the game of golf can do — how bad it can be and how great it can be.”

Fisher and Rory McIlroy were playing partners on Britain and Ireland teams at amateur level and the US Open champion was quick to congratulate his friend, tweeting: ‘Enjoy this one buddy. Great to see you back where you belong’

Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti carded a final-round 66 to move into a clear third place while Fisher’s compatriot Gary Boyd finished fourth, five shots off the top.

Steven O’Hara, who had shared the lead with Fisher overnight, struggled on his final round and the Scotsman ended up signing for a three-over-par 75 leaving him tied for fifth with compatriot David Drysdale, England’s Steve Webster and Lorenzo Gagli of Italy.

The Irish challenge failed to materialise on the final day, with Damien McGrane finishing in a tie for ninth position on six under after carding a level-par 72. Shane Lowry birdied three of the closing four holes to card a 69 and finish on four under, while a seven on the par-four seventh hole saw Paul McGinley sign for a 75, two under for the tournament.

First-round leader Peter Lawrie finished on level par after a 73, while Simon Thornton closed with a 71, which left him on three over.

USPGA TOUR:Pádraig Harrington faces an anxious few hours after he closed with a two-under 68 to finish on six under at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina to move into the top 125 on the FedEx standings.

The Dubliner carded four birdies and two bogeys in his round, enough to move him to 124th position, one place inside the cut-off for the lucrative play-off series.

EUROPEAN SENIORS TOUR:Des Smyth finished in a tie for third spot at the Scottish Senior Open at Fairmont St Andrews, closing with a 67 to finish four shots behind England's Barry Lane, who closed with an eagle at the last to put the seal on a successful title defence.

After a thrilling final round battle with NBC television commentator and six-time PGA Tour winner Gary Koch, Lane stood on the 18th tee one shot clear of playing partner, knowing he would have to produce a special finish to put an end to the challenge of his American rival.

A brilliant drive was followed by a crisp five iron to 18 feet, and when Koch’s own eagle effort drifted by the hole, Lane rolled his putt below ground to give the final round the finish it truly deserved as he signed for a final round of six-under-par 66 for a winning total of 14-under 274.

In the end that was two clear of Koch, whose own 67 ensured second spot ahead of Australia’s Peter Fowler and Smyth, with the European Senior Tour’s most prolific winner Carl Mason taking fifth place.
