Kerry captured the AIB All-Ireland women's intermediate football title at Ballinasloe on Saturday evening when they comprehensively defeated Dublin by 6-15 to 1-7. Kerry midfielder Marie Fitzgerald, sister of Maurice Fitzgerald, was outstanding, roaming at will throughout, the field and giving a hand in defence and leading many attacks. Dublin were first to score when their captain, Christina McGinty pointed a free inside 30 seconds and a minute before the interval she goaled from the penalty spot with a great right-footed drive.

In between Kerry had taken control and they led by double scores at the interval, 2-8 to 1-4.

A Fitzgerald pass found the unmarked Terry O'Connor for Kerry's first goal and she was also involved in a passing movement which led to Dara Sugrue netting Kerry's second goal.

Longford qualified for their second successive women's junior football final on Saturday evening, but they were hard pressed to overcome New York (2-8 to 0-9) in Ballinasloe.
