DARRAGH FITZPATRICK clinched victory for the Ireland Club XV with the last kick of the game at Donnybrook last night. The Blackrock centre held his nerve as the match entered its 85th minute to steer his side to a hard-earned victory with a drop-goal from 30 metres.

Ireland were ahead just four minutes in as Frank Cogan burrowed over from five metres.

Daragh O’Shea missed the conversion, but he got another chance minutes later and he nailed his second kick, converting Mike Essex’s try after a strong Irish maul. Scott Wight got the visitors off the mark with a 19th minute penalty, but Fitzpatrick restored Ireland’s advantage to 15-3. But Scotland rallied and were level at the break, as Fraser Harkness scored two minutes before the whistle. The visitors were level at the break as Malcolm Clapperton crossed under the posts.

Fitzpatrick put Ireland ahead with a penalty 10 minutes from time. Wight equalised straight away.
