Summerhill College captured their fifth consecutive Connacht schools senior cup title at Ray MacSharry Park in Cranmore yesterday. The Sligo college were rarely tested as they powered their way to a comfortable victory and became the first Connacht school to achieve a five-in-a-row.

The home side, managed by former Sligo Rovers star David Pugh, went in front on the half-hour when Alan McGuire fired to the Marist net after slack marking in the visitors' defence. Fergal O'Hara provided a perfect cross for half-time substitute Steve Hallahan to apply the finish to Summerhill's second after 48 minutes.

The Summerhill goal had a lucky let-off in the 90th minute when Declan Holohan's blistering freekick came back off the bar. However, Sligo Rovers player Keith Gilroy put the icing on the cake for the home side with a superb goal a minute into stoppage time.

Summerhill: Greene; Davey, Savage, O'Donnell, Dwyer, Scanlon, O'Hara, Horan, Feeney, Gilroy, McGuire. Subs: Hallahan for Savage (halftime), Nibbs for Horan (55 mins), O'Brien for McGuire (83 mins).
