International/Ireland Under-19 6 Wales Under-19 31: A flamboyant Wales Under-19 back division scored five tries at Stradbrook, Dublin, on Saturday. The Welsh pack gave their backs an ideal platform but Ireland held them back for most of the first half.

Outhalf Ian Keatley scored Ireland's only points with two penalties in the first half, but a try by Wales centre Ashley Smith, converted by outhalf Rhys Jones, meant Wales led by only two points at half-time.

The visitors opened up after the break and fine lineout play, strong scrummaging and enterprising open-running resulted in four further tries.

The first was a well-worked blindside move between scrumhalf Robert Lewis and winger Alec Jones who got an easy run in for the touchdown.

Further tries came from fast, open movements and were scored by centre Gareth Maule, impressive fullback Martyn Thomas and substitute Matthew Larsen.

The Irish backrow of Anderson, Pollock and Sheehan were sterling in defence and the three-quarter line were very strong in their tackles but the inevitable happened with the overall dominance of the Welsh side.

Ireland's only real break in the second half came from centre Ian Whitten who broke from well within his own half and made it almost to the opposition's 22-metre line.
