US Masters:Fog delayed the start of the 72nd Masters at Augusta National Golf Club after four times champion Arnold Palmer hit the ceremonial first shot at the opening par four today.
Organisers pushed back tee times by 20 minutes but the delay was
likely to last longer with visibility deteriorating on the elevated
first tee.
Americans Ben Curtis and Shaun Micheel had been scheduled to
tee off first at 8am (1pm Irish time). Play has since got underway
and both Curtis and Micheel opened with par fours.
British Open champion Padraig Harrington is the only Irishman
in the field and he is due to tee-off at 3.34pm (Irish time)
alongside former Masters champion Mike Weir and India's Jeev Mikha
Singh.
Tiger Woods sets-off in the group behind Harrington (3.45pm)
alongside US Open champion Angel Cabrera and Australia's Stuart
Appleby.
Palmer, 78, a crowd favourite at Augusta since his debut in
1955, struck his drive straight down the middle before his ball
disappeared in the fog.
"I've hit it out of sight," the seven times major winner said
with a smile.
Palmer, who made his 50th and final competitive appearance
here in 2004, performed the role as honorary starter at the Masters
for the second time.
