A week after Tiger Woods strolled around Limerick Golf Club to win the J P McManus Pro-Am, Elaine Dowdall (Wexford) showed her class on the same course to win her second Lancome Ladies Intermediate championship when beating Marie Morrin from Naas 4 and 3 in the final. Morrin had earlier beaten last year's Irish Close champion Claire Coughlan on her way to the final but found the steady play of Dowdall too much to handle. Dowdall had four birdies and finished three under for the 15 holes played.

Leading qualifier Martina Gillen from Beaverstown added the Irish Girls title to her list of achievements when beating Norma Mullooly of Donegal in the final. The Pat Fletcher Trophy for non-qualifiers was won by Kate Davis of Bandon who beat Madelene Canty of Tramore on the 19th. Meanwhile, Martina Gillen will lead the Irish Girls' team for the home Internationals at Downfield Golf Club, Dundee from August 15th to 17th. The Irish team is: Maria Dunne (Skerries), Sarah Gallagher (Claremorris), Martina Gillen (Beaverstown), Susie Hayes (Hermitage), Michelle Holmes (Enniscrone), Brenda McLarnon (Fortwilliam), Norma Mulooly (Donegal), Heather Nolan (Shannon). The team will be captained by Ada O'Sullivan and managed by Bridget Gleeson Healy.
