Camogie News round-up: The camogie world was saddened yesterday to hear of the death of former president Nancy Murray who passed away suddenly on Saturday night.

The former great was on the first Antrim team to bring the O'Duffy Cup to the Glens in 1945. She went on to win two more titles in 1946 and 1947. A member of the Deirdre club in Belfast she held the position of president between 1973 and 1975 as well as refereeing four senior All-Ireland finals between 1958 and 1970.

Meanwhile, Down got their Ulster junior championship campaign off to a good start with a 3-14 to 1-4 win over title holders Armagh in Ballycran yesterday.

The Orchard county were a goal up after five minutes thanks to Patricia McAvoy but Down replied three minutes later with their opening goal and never looked back after that, stretching to a half-time lead of 2-6 to 1-4, and prevented Armagh a single score in the second period to comfortably win. Down now go on to meet Derry who defeated London 2-14 to 0-5 in Ruislip on Saturday.

The only other match in the championship Tyrone overcome Cavan in Ballyhaise, 4-10 to 2-7.

Meanwhile in the Munster junior championship Waterford pushed Limerick hard in a match which just escaped the Decies just at the death. Waterford were a point ahead, 3-9 to Waterford's 3-8, with eight minutes left. However, Limerick's extra experience shaded it with two goals in the final two minutes from Carol Hickey and Dympna O'Brien.

Limerick meet Cork in the final on July 7th following their 8-23 whitewashing of Tipperary.
