Fota Island to host Irish Women's Close

GOLF: Fota Island in Cork will play host to the Lancome Irish Women’s Close in May

GOLF:Fota Island in Cork will play host to the Lancome Irish Women's Close in May. Originally scheduled for the links at Baltray, the championship was forced to look for another venue after the Co Louth course was awarded the Irish Open earlier this month.

Last year’s event was won by teenage sensation Leona Maguire, who beat her twin sister Lisa in an exciting decider at Westport.

Commenting on the announcement, ILGU Chief Executive Sinead Heraty said: “We were thrilled by the offers of clubs to host our Championship when they heard of our unfortunate clash of dates at Baltray.

“While the Union is pleased that the Irish Open has found a good home, we are delighted that Fota Island Resort will host our blue -ribboned event over their splendid layout that will prove a challenging test for Ireland’s elite female amateurs”.
