Brian Kerr's successful run in charge of Irish underage teams continued in Olafsfjordur, northern Iceland, last night as his latest batch of under-16s recorded a resounding win over Denmark in the opening match of the Nordic Cup.

Middlesbrough's Gerard Robinson, introduced as a half-time substitute, scored twice in the second half to finally give a dominant Ireland their reward.

He opened the scoring within six minutes of the re-start when reacting well after Andy Reid's shot had been parried by the Danish goalkeeper.

Reid subsequently forced a great save from the Danish goalkeeper, while Denmark came close to equalising when hitting the Irish crossbar before Ireland got their second on 58 minutes.

Again the Danes' goalkeeper could only parry a shot, this time from Martin Creamer, and John Milligan followed up to score. Within a minute, Robinson sealed Ireland's win with the goal of the game, rising superbly to head home a terrific cross from fullback David Fanzantan.

Alan Cawley, on the pitch just four minutes, added the fourth on 76 minutes when shooting home from 12 yards after Reid had flicked on a long ball out of defence.
