Monaghan SFC Final/Magheracloone 1-16 Scotstown 0-5: Magheracloone won their first senior football championship title in wintry conditions in Clones yesterday. They always held a slight edge, particularly in attack where the Freemans, Damien and Tom, with Fintan Kindlon and Paudie Finnegan caused Scotstown all sorts of problems.
Finnegan struck for the only goal after 17 minutes and Magheracloone went on to lead by 1-6 to 0-4 at half-time.
In the second half Magheracloone consolidated but their goal had something of a charmed life a couple of times. Points by Finnegan and Damien Freeman put Magheracloone seven points up and the game was all over when Tom Freeman fired over two scores in the 16th and 20th minutes. Scotstown pulled back a late point but never looked like getting a goal.
