Two days after undergoing laser eye surgery, Fred Funk had little trouble finding the hole on his way to grabbing the lead at the $2 million Kemper Open at Potomac, Maryland, yesterday.

Funk had eight birdies in a seven-under 64 at the Avenel TPC that marked his first sub-70 round on the PGA Tour this year and earned him a one-stroke lead over fellow-American Chris Perry and a three-shot cushion over anyone else.

Funk, 41, has won four times on the PGA Tour and is 70th on this year's money list.

Meanwhile, Woody Austin had the first double eagle on tour in more than a year, which helped him to a three-under 68.
