Good Counsel and Thurles to meet in All-Ireland colleges hurling final
Despite playing out the closing 21 minutes with 14 players, Good Counsel College, New Ross, turned in an amazing finish to edge out Gort CS 1-12 to 0-11 in an excellent All-Ireland Colleges ‘A’ semi-final at Templemore on Saturday.
The sides were level, 1-8 to 0-11, with 30 seconds of normal time remaining, but Good Counsel hit four unanswered points from Walter Walsh, Matt Crowdle and two from Ger Aylward, (one a sideline cut) to clinch a final against Thurles CBS.
Wind-assisted Gort controlled the opening half to lead 0-9 to 0-4 at the break, with some excellent point taking from Richard Cummins and Conor Cooney. Declan Murphy’s goal early in the second half lifted Good Counsel but they looked in trouble when midfielder Matthew O’Hanlon was red-carded four minutes later.

Camogie round-up
ALL EYES will be on Cork and Wexford in the final game of Division One of the National League next weekend to determine who will meet the winners of Kilkenny or Tipperary in the league final.
Following Cork’s 0-15 to 0-5 victory over Limerick at Mallow yesterday, Wexford and Galway are on four points, Cork are on two but have a game on hand. However, if the Slaneysiders were to win, they would top the table and go through.
Elsewhere, Clare claimed their first points beating Dublin 2-7 to 2-6 at Naomh Mearnog.
Meanwhile, Loreto College Kilkenny defeated St Patrick’s Maghera 2-7 to 0-9 to win the All-Ireland junior A colleges title.
St Joseph’s Borrisoleigh defeated St Patrick’s Keady 5-7 to 3-2 in the junior B decider.
Kerry aces to face St Mary's
Three late points from Paul Cribben helped St Mary’s Edenderry edge out St Colman’s, Claremorris 2-12 to 1-11 in a high-quality Hogan Cup semi-final at Pearse Park, Longford yesterday.
A first-minute goal from corner forward Stuart Cullen helped St Mary’s to a 1-6 to 0-7 interval lead as Paul Cribben, Shane Forde, Anton Sullivan, and Sean Hurley all registered tidy points for Edenderry.
A 36th minute Sullivan penalty helped St Mary’s move seven points in front. But Colman’s battled back as Barry Healy’s 49th minute goal was followed by points from Shane Nally and Brian Walsh (2).

Last year’s beaten finalists, Thurles CBS proved too hot for Castlecomer CS (Kilkenny) by 1-16 to 0-9 in a high class semi-final at Nowlan Park yesterday.
Castlecomer looked slightly the better team during the opening half when backed by the wind and led 0-8 to 0-5 despite registering nine wides. But Thurles responded in the second half. Within three minutes Michael O’Brien, John O’Neill and Kieran Morris (free) hit points to level the scores and than Morris (a free) put them in front.
There was an exchange of points after that before Thurles made the decisive break. Aidan McCormack put them in front before in the 40th minute Michael O’Brien cracked home a fine goal (1-10 to 0-9). David Butler and Morris added late points to ensure the winners’ of victory.

Quigley ruled out for the year
WEXFORD FORWARD Eoin Quigley has been ruled of the remainder of the national league and championship campaign.
Quigley, one of Wexford’s key forwards, damaged a cruciate knee ligament in training with the county squad this week.
Rory Coleman, manager of St Martin’s, Quigley’s home club, confirmed: “The injury has been diagnosed as a severe cruciate knee ligament injury. Eoin has been ruled out for the remainder of the year.”
Wicklow maintain promotion challenge in Division Four
Wicklow maintained their bid for promotion from Division Four with a 1-20 to 0-9 victory over London at Aughrim. Wicklow built up most of their 14-point winning margin in the first half.
Leading by nine points, 0-13 to 0-4, at the break, Wicklow struggled for much of the second half to extend that advantage and it was a late goal by full-forward Seanie Furlong five minutes from the end that gave the final scoreline a more emphatic appearance.
Antrim boosted their promotion hopes with a a 1-11 to 0-9 win over Sligo on Saturday night at Casement Park. Paddy Cunningham’s goal after 30 minutes helped Antrim into a 1-6 to 0-5 interval lead.
Sligo didn’t score again from the 49th minute while Antrim hit three points to seal victory.
Waterford proved too strong for Carlow as they recorded a 1-7 to 0-6 victory. Liam Ó’Lionáin who scored two goals in the first quarter of an hour to set up Waterford for victory over Leitrim last week, entered the fray at half-time, and scored a goal in the 62nd minute to put his side in front for the first time. Waterford trailed 0-3 to 0-5 at the break.
In yesterday’s other game goals from Tomás Beirne, Daniel Beck, James Glancy and Phil McGuinness helped Leitrim coast to a 4-19 to 0-4 win over Kilkenny at Freshford.

Jack O’Connor’s Colàiste na Sceilge produced a superb display to register a 3-10 to 1-6 victory over Ulster champions, St Patrick’s, Dungannon in the second semi-final.
Eanna O’Connor, Niall O’Shea and Ian Galvin were the Dungannon side’s chief tormentors, scoring 3-7 from play between them.
St Pat’s Dermot Thornton’s saw an early penalty kick saved by Damien Horgan before Galvin set up O’Shea for goal number one. O’Shea and O’Connor slotted an array of fine points to give their side a 1-7 to 0-3 interval lead. Galvin’s two second half goals confirmed Coláiste’s superiority despite Kierfer Morgan’s 50th minute goal for Pat’s.
