WALSH CUP:EIGHT POINTS from Odhran Kealey helped Offaly to a 1-19 to 1-18 victory over Dublin IT in the first round clash at Rath yesterday.
Diarmuid Horan pointed a free from a difficult angle on the left to send Offaly into the quarter-finals.
DIT’s Harry Kehoe scored a goal after 18 minutes and they were three points clear approaching half-time when Cathal Parlon finished a good run with a goal which sent the sides in level at the break at 1-9 apiece.
Offaly led through most of the half but DIT levelled with the game entering stoppage-time before Horan’s late intervention.
Elsewhere, a fine goal before half-time from NUI Galway right corner forward Shane Quinlan helped NUI Galway to a 1-17 to 1-8 win over Carlow at Dr Cullen Park.
Quinlan’s goal helped NUI lead 1-8 to 1-4 at the interval. Finian Coone scored 0-10 for the winners, all from placed balls.
Kilkenny man Maurice Nolan was in top form at Belfield yesterday, his 11 points helping the students to a resounding 4-21 to 3-10 victory over Antrim.
Goals from Liam Nolan, Ciarán Lyng and Peter Atkinson earned UCD a 3-10 to 3-4 interval lead. PJ O’Connell (twice) and Karl McKeegan finding the net for Antrim.

At Rathdowney, Willie Hyland scored seven points as Laois overcame Galway-Mayo IT 1-25 to 1-13.
